Since Kick-Off, Blue Zones Project Jacksonville has had a huge policy win. The City of Jacksonville has unanimously passed a Smoke-Free Park ordinance, prohibiting smoking in Jacksonville’s parks. With a toxic mix of over 7,000 chemicals, secondhand smoke has claimed the lives of 2.5 million Americans from 1964 to 2014. Discarded cigarette butts, non-biodegradable and detrimental to our environment, are the top littered items in the U.S. Let’s reduce this footprint and safeguard our beautiful parks. We are proud to usher in a healthier era with the introduction of Smoke-Free Parks, allowing Jacksonville’s parks to be places of well-being, recreation, and community bonding. We’re now proud partners with Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach, Jacksonville Beach, and the City of Baldwin in championing Smoke-Free Park Ordinances.
