PEOPLE

BLUE ZONES PROJECT ENGAGES PEOPLE IN ACTIVITIES THAT CHANGE MINDSETS AND HABITS IN LASTING WAYS.

We work with Community Members, Faith-based Institutions, and Civic and Social Organizations to make the healthy choice the easy choice.

We give individuals tools, tips, and tricks that empower them to adopt the Power 9 principles and transform their home and social environments so that healthy choices become easier.

We offer programs that help community members identify their passions, talents, and values, and uncover their sense of purpose. Then we help them find ways to volunteer or put their purpose to work, enriching their lives and the lives of others in the community.

Our connections to friends, family, and those around us have the ability to shape our lives and impact our health, happiness, and behaviors, so Blue Zones Project helps people cultivate positive social networks based on interests.

When all of these things come together, what results is a healthier culture that embraces principles for living longer, better.

Faith-Based Institutions

There are currently 456 faith-based organizations in our focused zip codes (32206, 32208, 32209, 32210, and 32244). Blue Zones Project Jacksonville is working to engage with as many of these organizations as possible to host a Blue Zones Project event, such as a 10-week Movement Moai or a 2-hour Purpose Workshop. It is our goal to increase faith-based participation and thought leadership on well-being in our neighborhoods of focus. We know that when people have a sense of Belonging (no matter what denomination or religious affiliation) they live longer! Join us today and become involved with making the healthy choice the easy choice.

Movement Moai at The Oak

Elders in Okinawa, Japan have Moai's (mow-eyes), or social support groups, that start in childhood and extend into their 100s. The term moai originated hundreds of years ago as a means of a village's support system. Our Movement Moai met at The Oak for 10-weeks to walk, roll, and stroll the neighborhood around the church - moving naturally, connecting with community, and living better, longer!

Purpose Workshop at Pleasant Grove Elevation Church

The Blue Zones Project hosts purpose workshops to help residents find purpose and pursue their passion to live up to 7 years longer. The Okinawans call it “ikigai” and the Nicoyans call it “plan de vida;” for both, it translates to “why I wake up in the morning.” Knowing your sense of purpose is worth up to seven years of extra life expectancy. Our Purpose Workshops help you to discover a clear definition and deepen your sense of your purpose.

Civic & Social Institutions

It is our goal to increase civic and social sector focus on health & wellbeing through collaborations with and amplification of local nonprofits. Visit our EVENTS page to view current and upcoming events, including our year of yoga moai! In partnership with Yoga 4 Change, and sponsored by Baptist Health, we will be hosting yoga every Tuesday at 6pm for FREE. These classes will spend 10 weeks in each of our focus zip codes of 32206, 32208, 32209, 32210, and 32244 for a total of 50 weeks. In addition, we are also regularly hosting Purpose Workshops, tabling at community partner events, and more!
